Achilles Tendon Injuries

The stress on your Achilles tendon causes it to become inflamed, and over time to become hardened (fibrotic) due to scar tissue formation. This causes the Achilles tendon to become inflexible and more prone to further injury. Chronic Achilles tendonitis can lead to complete rupture of the tendon if it is not treated and rehabilitated correctly.

The Causes of Achilles Tendon Injuries

Injury to the Achilles tendon are commonly seen in:

  • Athletes who increase their mileage too rapidly
  • Athletes who place sudden increased stress on their Achilles tendon, such as uphill training
  • Those who suffer from overpronation
  • Women who have changed from wearing high heels to low heels
